Prediction: 5-0
Tip: Handicap (-4) - Chelsea/Goals Over 3.5
Key Points:
1. Chelsea are unbeaten in nine matches ahead of this
2. Chesterfield has scored in nine straight away matches
3. Chelsea have scored two or more goals in four of the last five games
The third-round FA Cup fixture for the Premier League Chelsea looks like a cakewalk as they host Chesterfield at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Chesterfield, who plays four tiers below, in the National League- could cause the biggest upset of this tournament. It is rare for such a lower division to survive the filtration process of previous rounds. It will be difficult for Thomas Tuchel to deliver significant silverware this season.
Thus the German will be keen on a domestic double through the Carabao and FA Cup. The Pensioners have made it to the finals in the previous two editions of this tournament, and the third time could be the charm. Earlier this week, the Blues defeated fellow London side Tottenham to secure a berth in the finals of the EFL Cup.
Chelsea has remained undefeated in their last nine games in all competitions. The hosts could feature a much younger squad to handle the responsibility of progression into Round 4. The Spireites will face a Premier League side for the first time. They are no match against the European champions in any way.
James Rowe's side has already knocked out Curzon Ashton, Southend United, and Salford City to chart their course this far. They have done remarkably well as the side has gone 14 games unbeaten across all tournaments.
In the last 15 matches, they have scored two or more goals nine times. While away from home, they have four clean sheets in their last five games. The fifth-tier side's resistance will encounter the ultimate challenge in the capital.
For the hosts, Edouard Mendy is away for the Africa Cup of Nations, while N'Golo Kante and Thiago Silva tested positive for Covid. Kai Havertz joins Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Andreas Christensen in the injury list. The visitors will remain without youngster Jack Clarke for his hamstring injury.
