The growing market of OTT can be good revenue stream for clubs

Barcelona, the renowned Spanish soccer giants, have announced the launch of a new global streaming service. This free-to-access platform is set to revolutionize how fans engage with the club and its content.

The Barca One Over-The-Top (OTT) platform is expected to commence broadcasting in just a few weeks. This innovative service has been described as "the natural and necessary evolution" of the existing Barca TV+ platform. It will offer content centered around Barcelona, one of LaLiga's most successful clubs.

Barça One will offer fans exclusive content never seen before

Barca One offers an extensive library for sports fans: More than 1,500 hours of content from Barca TV archives, such as games, shows and reports. A fresh selection of programs featuring up-to-date information about Barcelona. Live broadcasts such as press conferences. Original content exclusive to this platform.

The first exclusive offering on this new service will be "Origins | Araujo", a documentary focusing on Ronald Araujo - FC Barcelona's Uruguayan defender.

While being advertisement-based, this free service does not require registration. However, there will also be an ad-free version available for those willing to pay for it. FC Barcelona members are set to benefit from this option at no extra cost.

Barcelona's financial struggles have prompted new venture

This move comes at a crucial time for FC Barcelona who are currently grappling with financial challenges believed to be around $1.29 billion in debt. The club has stated that they expect their new streaming platform will serve as "an important source of income".

On-field performance remains critical too; currently eight points behind their arch-rivals Real Madrid in LaLiga standings with only 11 matches remaining.

While facing significant financial and competitive challenges, FC Barcelona is taking a bold step forward with the launch of Barca One OTT. This platform promises to offer fans a new way to engage with the club while also providing an additional revenue stream for the financially embattled team.
