Three days after becoming England’s all-time leading goalscorer, Harry Kane added another goal to his tally as Gareth Southgate’s men claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday.

Kane netted his 54th international goal to help the Three Lions secure a famous win against Italy on Thursday, and the Tottenham Hotspur striker wasted no time in taking his record to 55 goals in 82 caps for his country.

Former England captain Steven Gerrard was among the pundits for Channel 4’s coverage of the match, alongside Jules Breach, Joe Cole, Jill Scott and Andriy Shevchenko.

Praising Kane during the post-match analysis, Steven Gerrard told Channel 4:

“He’s relentless, and people will always speak about his goals, but the reason why I admire him so much is every part of his game is strong.

“His hold-up play – it's not easy playing with your back to play when you’ve got big defenders breathing down your neck, but he’s so strong. His touch is fantastic.”

Gerrard made 114 appearances for England between 2000 and 2014, scoring 21 goals. Like Kane, the 42-year-old captained the Three Lions during the latter stages of his international career.

The former Liverpool and LA Galaxy midfielder also said:

“He's one of the best passers of the ball in the Premier League, and in world football. People don’t give him enough credit for that. His short passing, his long passing, he can whip passes, he can switch the play. He’s got absolutely everything.

“And you know what else he’s got? He’s a fantastic person. Every time you hear him speak, he makes you feel proud to be an Englishman because he speaks and represents us so well.”

Kane opened the scoring in the 37th minute against Ukraine, guiding the ball into the net from a Bukayo Saka cross. Three minutes later, Saka secured the win with a sublime long-range strike.

England have made the perfect start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, taking maximum points from their first two games to take up a strong position in Group C. With Kane scoring goals for fun, the Three Lions shouldn’t struggle to win the group.
