Beckham thinks United have all but lacks character to silence critics

David Beckham, the former Manchester United midfielder, has issued a challenge to the current players of his old club. He urges them to prove their critics wrong and demonstrate their motivation to represent one of the world's biggest clubs.

Beckham believes that playing for a club as prestigious as Manchester United should be motivation enough for any player. He points out that these stars are not only paid handsomely but also have the honour of representing a globally renowned football institution. The fact that some players need reminding of this is concerning and something he hopes Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS-led football operations team is taking note of.

Beckham was in Manchester recently attending the premiere of a new documentary about United's famous 1999 treble-winning side, an event which he played an instrumental role in. His company, Studio 99, has contributed significantly to the production of '99', a three-part series set to launch on May 17th.

Beckham thinks players should take share for poor performances

The former England captain expressed his thoughts on how Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled throughout this season with inconsistent results on the pitch. Beckham firmly believes that it's time for players to take responsibility and share part of the blame for their underwhelming performance.

David Beckham, Manchester United legend, said:

“You’d hope that the manager doesn’t have to do much. I think that’s the whole point of being a Manchester United player and playing in these big games – you should be motivated.”

“When you’re a professional footballer and you’re doing the job you love and you’re at the club you love, when you’re playing in any game, whether it’s a regular season game or whether it’s an FA Cup final against your rivals, that should be enough motivation,”

“And, if it’s not, then you’re in the wrong team and you’re playing the wrong sport. We went into every game, whether it was a youth cup game, a friendly game, off-season or a European Cup final, with the same mentality and the same drive.

“We all know Erik’s a very qualified manager and a good manager and he has the right motives.”

The second season under Ten Hag could potentially worsen if they suffer another defeat against Man City in FA Cup final after losing last year’s final match against them too. This situation doesn't bode well for any false sense of positivity among fans or within team ranks.

A call to prove worthiness by United legend

Despite these challenges, David Beckham remains hopeful about United’s current squad proving their worth by turning things around at Wembley Stadium after last season’s loss against City in FA Cup final. He believes that this could be the perfect opportunity for them to demonstrate their long-term commitment and value to the club.

Beckham's message is clear: it's time for Manchester United players to step up, take responsibility and prove their critics wrong. The upcoming FA Cup final against Man City presents a golden opportunity for them to do just that.
