The OTT platform has signed a multi-territory deal to air the English top flight and FA Cup

DAZN has successfully acquired the broadcast rights for the Women's Super League and Women's FA Cup in multiple overseas territories, including crucial markets like Spain, Japan and Italy.

The new agreement will see the live streamer present live coverage of two or more WSL matches per gameweek, as well as several FA Cup games each season.

The WSL matches will be available only to paying subscribers on the DAZN platform, while the women's FA Cup games will be shown for free on the company's UEFA Women's Champions League YouTube channel, throughout the next two seasons.

As well as the aforementioned three key markets, the deal will also see coverage brought to screens in Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Romania, Turkey and several other European countries.

This latest foray into women's football TV rights builds on momentum already made by DAZN with their acquisition of the UEFA Women's Champions League, in a global deal which will last for the next four years. They have also recently picked up the rights to Spain's Liga F and the Japanese WE League, the women's top flight divisions in those respective countries.

In their own statement, DAZN said:

“It underscores DAZN’s commitment to elevate the women’s game, maximize its exposure, grow fanbases and invest in the entire ecosystem, which will benefit all stakeholders,”

DAZN CEO Shay Segev also commented on the deal:

“Acquiring the rights to the Women’s Super League and Women’s FA Cup is a long-term investment for DAZN and demonstrates that DAZN is truly the home of sport. It is our mission to grow this audience and provide global access, as we continue to invest in undervalued sports, with a long-term view to build strong commercial propositions that benefit all stakeholders within the ecosystem,”

The growth in popularity of women's football has seen more and more high profile broadcast deals signed in recent months and years. Projections show that this uptick in favour for the women's game is only going to increase as time goes on. Stay tuned for news on similar deals as and when they are struck.
