Portugal star has left Manchester United to play in the Saudi Pro League which isn't broadcast in the UK

This month has proven to be one of the biggest falls from grace witnessed in sport in quite some time.

Cristiano Ronaldo, regarded by many to be one of the greatest football players of all time, has gone from playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world in the most watched league in the world to joining a Saudi club whose fixtures aren't even broadcast live in most countries.

While effectively ending his Premier League career during a controversial interview with Piers Morgan around a month ago, Ronaldo claimed he could still play at the highest level, but after he was released by United and no bids came in for him from any European clubs, the six time Ballon d'Or winner has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

Not only is the Saudi Pro League far from the "highest level" and a huge drop off from any elite European league in terms of quality, it is also barely seen across the globe.

Outside of the arab world, it is very difficult to follow Al-Nassr and the SPL. In the UK, it is actually impossible to watch live matches anywhere on TV or via live streaming.

This is sure to leave Cristiano Ronaldo's legions of British and European fans dismayed as they will no longer be able to actively follow the career of their hero.

Ronaldo is likely hurt to know that he will no longer be such a visible presence on the global footballing radar, but the £177m per year salary he is going to earn should offset those concerns a bit.

How to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play for Al-Nassr

If you live in the UK, it's simple. You can't. At least for this season.

The domestic top flight Saudi Pro League and two main cup competitions the King Cup and Saudi Super Cup aren't broadcast in the UK anywhere, online or offline.

However, the Asian Champions League is available in the UK on OneFootball, so if Al-Nassr qualify for that, fans could watch Ronaldo via live streaming next season. In order to do that, Ronaldo's side will need to finish first or second in the league this season, having just missed out during the previous campaign, finishing third.

US based Ronaldo fans have it slightly better. They can live stream Al-Nassr league matches legally this season by subscribing to live streaming platform Shahid for $18 a month. Shahid has exclusive broadcasting rights to the Saudi Pro League in the US.

Fans can pay $18 for a monthly subscription to the Shahid sports package or pay $160 for an annual subscription.

Elsewhere in Europe, India and around the world, live coverage of the Saudi Pro League is hard to come by. However, with Ronaldo in the mix, this might be about to change in the years to come.
