Scotland vs Spain preview

Scotland produced a dominant performance in front of their fans on Saturday, creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities while enjoying the lion’s share of possession.

John McGinn put the hosts ahead midway through the first half before Scott McTominay came off the bench to bag a late brace, putting a gloss on the scoreline.

Although Scotland have won four of their last six matches – and 11 of their previous 17 – Steve Clarke’s men will have to be at their very best to get anything from Tuesday’s clash.

Spain also benefitted from a late brace from a substitute in their first match, as Joselu came off the bench to score twice on his international debut, adding to Dani Olmo’s first-half opener.

Under the guidance of new head coach Luis de la Fuente, La Roja are expected to finish atop Group A, despite having suffered a disappointing last-16 exit from the World Cup in Qatar.

With young stars such as Gavi, Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino leading the way for the new generation, Spain are also among the bookies’ early favourites to lift the trophy in Germany next year.

Scotland vs Spain prediction

There is no hiding the fact that Spain are a cut above Scotland, so we expect the visitors to claim a relatively straightforward victory on Tuesday.

Given that Spain have netted 15 goals across their past six encounters across in competitions (2.5 goals per game), La Roja look set to notch a high-scoring win at Hampden Park.
