Australia, Malaysia and Singapore are also involved in the potential joint bid

Indonesia has initiated discussions with Australia, Malaysia and Singapore about a potential joint bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, according to the president of the country's football federation (PSSI). This development comes in the wake of FIFA's invitation to member associations from Asia and Oceania to bid for the rights to the 2034 edition.

FIFA, football’s governing body, recently invited member associations from Asia and Oceania to bid for the rights to host the 2034 World Cup. This announcement followed the decision to award the hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup to Spain, Morocco and Portugal, with Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina set to stage the opening games.

The decision to distribute hosting rights across three continental governing bodies seemed to pave the way for Saudi Arabia to host the 2034 World Cup. According to FIFA rules, only Asia or Oceania can bid for the rights to the 2034 edition.

Saudi Arabia's solo bid

Saudi Arabia had initially announced a joint bid for the 2030 tournament with Greece and Egypt but withdrew earlier this year. However, within hours of FIFA’s announcement, the oil-rich kingdom confirmed its plan to bid for the 2034 competition alone. This move by Saudi Arabia has added a new dimension to the race for the hosting rights of the 2034 World Cup.

In light of these developments, Indonesia has entered into discussions with Australia, Malaysia and Singapore about a possible joint bid. If successful, this would be a significant achievement for these countries and could potentially boost their global standing in the world of football.

The joint bid could also provide an opportunity for these nations to showcase their capabilities in hosting large-scale international events, thereby attracting more tourism and investment.

The race for the 2034 FIFA World Cup hosting rights is heating up with potential bids from Asia and Oceania. The joint bid by Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore could present a formidable challenge to Saudi Arabia's solo bid. As the world of football awaits the final decision, the anticipation continues to build among sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike.
