Six-part, behind-the-scenes series will cover the historic treble achieved by Pep Guardiola and his team last season

UEFA Champions League and Premier League champions Manchester City have sold the rights to their treble-winning season documentary to Netflix. This move marks another milestone in the streaming giant's efforts to bolster its sports-related programming, after recently signing an historic deal with WWE to air its Monday Night Raw property.

The documentary is expected to offer fans an exclusive behind-the-scenes perspective on Manchester City’s journey during their historic treble-winning season. The climax of this journey was their UEFA Champions League final win over Inter Milan in Istanbul.

With a trailer anticipated as early as this week, fans can look forward to reliving those most memorable of moments from last year.

According to The Daily Mail, Netflix acquired the rights for a "seven-figure sum".

Man City continues trend of transparency

The six-part documentary is believed to be available for streaming early next month. This deal signifies yet another lucrative venture for Manchester City who were also the subject of Amazon Prime Video’s ‘All or Nothing’ series during their 100 points tally Premier League win in 2017-18.

In addition to external partnerships, Manchester City has produced its own documentaries through its in-house production team covering the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

These productions further highlight the club's commitment towards providing fans with comprehensive insights into their performance and strategies.

Netflix continues foray into sports documentaries

This partnership with Manchester City also underscores Netflix's growing interest in sports programming. While they have previously focused on individual football personalities like Real Madrid legends David Beckham and Luis Figo, this will be their first venture into documenting a club's entire season.

Netflix has quickly become a valuable distribution channel for sports over recent years since releasing the Formula One 'Drive To Survive' series back in 2019 which significantly boosted F1’s popularity worldwide and became a global phenomenon for the streaming platform.

Since then, they've produced other docuseries like 'Break Point' covering tennis 'Quarterback' for the NFL. An NBA-focused series featuring LeBron James is also expected to launch on the platform soon.

The upcoming Man City documentary on Netflix promises to be a treat for Premier League fans, as it not only offers an in-depth look into one of the most successful seasons in football history but also marks a significant step forward in Netflix's sports programming strategy.
