99 will enable fans to relive the club’s famous treble-winning season

Prime Video has announced that it will air a brand-new documentary series about Manchester United’s treble-winning 1998-99 campaign.

Titled ‘99’, the UK Original documentary will launch exclusively on Prime Video next year, with more than 240 countries and territories able to enjoy the series.

Featuring exclusive interviews with former players such as David Beckham, Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, 99 will be the “definitive documentary series of Manchester United’s historic treble-winning season”.

According to Prime Video, every moment is remembered “in vivid detail”, with never-before-seen archive footage featured throughout the series.

Fittingly, 99 is co-produced by Studio 99 (David Beckham’s production house) and Buzz16 (Gary Neville’s production company), as well as Ventureland.

The documentary will be produced by Ventureland’s Miles Coleman and John Battsek, with Sampson Collins directing the series. They will be joined by David Gardner and Nicola Howson of Studio 99, and Scott Melvin of Buzz16.

Of course, a number of documentaries have already been based on Man Utd’s historic treble-winning season, but 99 is set to deliver an unrivalled account of the success.

Under the guidance of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, United won the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in the space of 10 days, becoming the first English team to achieve the sought-after treble.

After finishing one point above Arsenal in the Premier League table, the Red Devils defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the FA Cup final before coming from behind to beat German giants Bayern Munich 2-1 in the Champions League showpiece in Barcelona.

Substitutes Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both scored in second-half stoppage time to secure the UCL silverware for United, meaning the 99 documentary is destined to have an enthralling ending.
