Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly United’s first-choice target in defence

Manchester United is reportedly planning a double swoop for two stars from Everton as they prepare for a significant summer transfer overhaul. The Red Devils, who recently secured a 2-0 victory over Everton, are said to be interested in Blues duo Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana.

Branthwaite and Onana were both included in the Toffees XI during their recent Manchester United fixture. Reports suggest that these players may soon find themselves performing more regularly at Old Trafford. A source confirmed that United "like the duo" and are continuing to monitor them.

Branthwaite, 21, is a defender who has been one of the top performers for Sean Dyche’s team this term. Similarly, midfielder Onana, 22, has also made his mark with impressive performances.

Branthwaite and Onana can be a perfect fit for United squad

With Manchester United primed for major upheaval during the summer amid investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Branthwaite and Onana may soon find themselves subject to an offer from Manchester.

Branthwaite's journey began at Goodison where he came through the ranks before spending time at Championship club Blackburn on loan. He later excelled in Holland during a stint at PSV Eindhoven last term. His displays this season have led to speculation about an England call-up after Gareth Southgate's assistant Steve Holland watched him live over the weekend.

Onana moved to Everton in 2022 for £33million and remains under contract until 2027 - same as Branthwaite.

There are many clubs vying signatures for both stars in upcoming window

However, securing these players won't be easy as competition looms large. Tottenham and Arsenal have shown interest in Branthwaite while Arsenal along with Barcelona have expressed interest in Belgium midfielder Onana.

Everton has had its share of financial struggles, having to cash in on several assets over the years to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules. This led them into a relegation battle when they were deducted 10 points in November, which has now been reduced to six after an appeal.

Despite these challenges, Everton manager Dyche insisted last week that the club does not have to sell their top talents again at the end of the campaign. As Manchester United eyes these key players for their summer overhaul, it remains to be seen how this transfer saga unfolds.
