Even with new owners on board, United are struggling due to financial constraints and are seeking ways to strengthen its team

Manchester United, a renowned name in the world of football, is reportedly planning a strategic move in the upcoming transfer window. The club is considering selling Raphael Varane to secure funds for signing Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy.

Varane, a former Real Madrid defender, joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 on a reported £42.7 million deal. Despite making 79 appearances and contributing two goals and an assist since his arrival, he has only started seven Premier League games this season.

Erik ten Hag, who has been favouring Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans over Varane, has relegated him to the bench multiple times. This decision by Ten Hag might be one of the reasons behind Manchester United's willingness to sell off Varane.

The club’s decision also aligns with meeting Financial Fair Play requirements. According to reports, they would need to sell off assets like Varane before they can sign Guirassy or any other player for that matter.

United’s struggles can be attributed to a lack of a lethal touch up front which can be resolved by Guirassy

Serhou Guirassy is currently playing as a striker for Stuttgart and has been performing exceptionally well this season. The 27-year-old player comes with an attractive £15.2 million release clause which could be considered as quite affordable given his current form - netting 17 goals in just 14 Bundesliga matches this season alone.

Guirassy joined Stuttgart from Stade Rennais on a permanent €9 million deal after spending one successful loaned season there where he scored impressive numbers - 33 goals from just 44 matches across competitions.

Manchester United’s interest in acquiring another striker stems from Rasmus Hojlund's disappointing start at Old Trafford following his €73.9 million move from Atalanta. The Denmark international has managed to score only once in 15 Premier League appearances, which is a worrying sign for the club.

Given Hojlund's form, Manchester United's management might be prompted to bring in a suitable second choice this January. Guirassy, with his impressive record and affordable release clause, seems to be an ideal candidate for the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s potential decision to sell Varane could pave the way for new talent like Guirassy. This strategic move could potentially strengthen their attacking line-up while also adhering to Financial Fair Play requirements.
