Joselu has been Madrid’s surprise package in attack this season

Manchester United is reportedly scouting Real Madrid striker Joselu, with the aim of understanding his current situation and potential price tag. The English club's interest in the Spanish forward comes as a surprise given his previous performance in the Premier League.

Joselu has had an interesting journey through various clubs. He previously played in the Premier League, where he scored only 10 goals across 68 games for Newcastle and Stoke. His performance was largely ineffective during this period.

However, after moving to Alaves from Newcastle, he experienced three successful goal-scoring seasons which led him to Espanyol. At Espanyol, Joselu managed to score 16 La Liga goals in a single season which earned him a loan move to Real Madrid.

Manchester United are on desperate scouting mission for striker

According to reports, Manchester United’s recent scouting mission involved discussions about Joselu. It appears that they met with clubs and agents exploring options for summer transfers and showed particular interest in the Spanish striker.

The main focus of these conversations was understanding Joselu’s current situation starting with his price tag. Given that his transfer from Alaves to Espanyol was free and that he is currently on loan at Real Madrid, it is difficult to estimate how much he would cost based on recent fees paid for him.

Real reportedly has an option to buy Joselu permanently for just £1.2 million but considering his impressive tally of 13 goals during his short term there so far, other interested clubs might be willing pay more than this amount.

Transfer dynamics make this deal interesting for summer

If Real decides not sign him permanently at the end of his loan period they could still buy him at a low fee then sell him on for more knowing that other clubs like Manchester United are showing interest.

However, it should be noted that after finding success again back home in Spain following a tough period in England, the 34-year-old may not be keen on moving away from his home country.

Despite these considerations, it is said that Joselu 'meets the characteristics' that Manchester United squad requires. Whether or not they will make a push to sign him remains to be seen. The success of such an endeavor will depend on several factors including Joselu's willingness to return to England and Real Madrid's plans for the striker.
