AMC Networks hold rights for Champions League in Czech Republic

In a significant shift in the sports broadcasting landscape, Central European commercial network Nova Sport has secured a selection of rights to broadcast pan-European club soccer’s UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League matches across the Czech Republic. This move marks a departure from the current broadcaster, AMC Networks.

The deal encompasses first-choice games in these two lower-tier competitions organized by European soccer’s governing body, UEFA. The agreement spans across three seasons from 2024-25 to the end of 2026-27.

Fans can look forward to watching their favorite teams compete on the newly launched Nova Sport 5 channel for these upcoming seasons.

A shift from tradition in Czech football broadcasting scene

At present, coverage of Europa Conference League and Europa League matches is provided by Czech TV and AMC Networks media group across the Czech Republic. Notably, this competition will be renamed at the end of 2023-24 season.

AMC Networks has also renewed its rights to broadcast selected action from these competitions over the next three seasons - an announcement made late last month. Additionally, it covers top-tier UEFA Champions League during this current cycle.

From 2024-25 onwards, both leagues - Europa and Conference - are set to expand in size with more teams participating and consequently more games being played. This expansion promises increased excitement for fans as they get more opportunities to watch their favorite clubs battle it out on-field.

Nova strengthening their grip in broadcasting

Nova's acquisition of broadcasting rights isn't limited only to football; it has also ventured into other sports recently. In February this year, Nova announced a partnership with mixed martial arts’ Professional Fighters League (PFL). Furthermore, it agreed on a deal with motor racing’s top-tier Formula 1 in October.

This diversification indicates Nova's commitment to providing a wide range of sports content to its viewers, thereby catering to the varied interests of Czech Republic fans.

The shift in broadcasting rights from AMC Networks to Nova Sport signifies a new era for football fans in the Czech Republic. With more games on offer due to league expansion and a new channel dedicated to these matches, fans can look forward to an enhanced viewing experience. Moreover, Nova's recent partnerships with other sporting leagues demonstrate its dedication towards offering diverse and engaging content for all sports enthusiasts.
