The exclusive agreement means all 380 matches each season will be available down under

Australian sports network Optus Sport has agreed an exclusive, multi-year TV rights deal with La Liga. The Spanish top flight is home to some of the biggest clubs in the sport, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, and now Australian fans can follow their favourite stars and teams every week on live TV and on-demand.

All 380 matches of the Spanish top flight season willl be broadcast by Optus Sport in 1080p HD. As well as providing access to games, Optus will also provide highlights, news and other relevant content.

This deal now means Optus Sports has secured the rights to two of the world's most prestigious football leagues, with La Liga joining the English Premier League on the roster.

The likes of Karim Benzema, Vinicius Jr, Pedri, Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann will now be stars on the small screen in Australia, as La Liga continues to grow its brand worldwide.

The deal is seen largely as a win-win as Optus continues to dominate the sports media rights market down under and La Liga adds another territory to its growing list of distributing partners.

The news also means that the captain of the Australian national team, Mat Ryan of Real Sociedad, will be given a platform to be seen by his countrymen every week on TV. He joins Aussie football legends like John Aloisi and Aurelio Vidmar who also plied their trade in Spanish football in years gone by.

After Australia qualified for the Qatar World Cup, courtesy of Ryan's goalkeeping rival Andrew Redmayne, fans will be keen to keep an eye on the progress of their key players as the tournament approaches. This new deal gives them the opportunity to keep tabs on Ryan as the former Brighton man tries to make a name for himself in La Liga.

Clive Dickens, Vice President for Content and Product Development at Optus Sport said,

"We are delighted to announce that Optus Sport has secured these exclusive La Liga rights here in Australia."

“The addition of Spain’s top professional league to Optus Sport’s line-up of premium rights shows our continued commitment to acquiring the world’s best football, that our customers love. We look forward to bringing an unprecedented level of La Liga coverage to Australian fans and partnering with them to significantly expand interest in LaLiga.”

Melcior Soler, Audiovisual Director at La Liga, gave his thoughts on the deal and said:

“At LaLiga we always look for best-in-class partners to deliver Spanish football to fans everywhere. Our agreement with Optus Sport ensures people in Australia will be able to enjoy LaLiga to the fullest."

"This is going to be even more important now to fans down under with some of Australia´s top talent represented in LaLiga clubs”.

As La Liga joins the Premier League in Optus Sport's list of acquisitions, the company also announced it has picked up the exclusive Australian TV rights for UEFA Euro 2024.

The LaLiga announcement follows earlier news that Optus Sport has also acquired the exclusive Australian rights to UEFA EURO 2024. The network continues to grow in stature in the region as it hoovers up high profile rights packages on a regular basis.
