Arteta recently said Arsenal have one of smallest squads in Premier League

UK television personality and renowned sports commentator, Piers Morgan, has publicly criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for his recent comments about the size of the Gunners' squad.

Arteta recently claimed that Arsenal possesses one of the smallest squads in the Premier League. This statement came as a surprise to many, especially considering that no significant moves have been made by the club in the ongoing winter transfer market.

Arsenal currently sits third in the Premier League standings, trailing five points behind leaders Liverpool. Despite holding a leading position at Christmas, they experienced a series of challenging matches and failed to secure victories in three consecutive games before their recent 5-0 triumph over Crystal Palace.

The team is now preparing for their upcoming Nottingham Forest fixture but is grappling with several injury concerns.

Injuries have been big issue for Arsenal this season

Key players such as Thomas Partey remain on the sidelines due to injuries. Other players like Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Magalhaes are also doubtful for future games due to health concerns.

Additionally, Jurrien Timber and Fabio Vieira are dealing with injuries while Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu are currently committed to their national teams. These circumstances led Arteta to comment on his squad's limited size during an interview.

Morgan criticized Arsenal for no transfer business in January

Morgan did not take kindly to these remarks from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. The journalist took advantage of social media platforms to express his disagreement with the manager’s statement about squad size.

TalkTV journalist, Piers Morgan, said:

“We have one of the thinnest squads in the league, that's for sure. And when you talk about the numbers, especially in certain areas, we are really thin. It wasn't possible [to do any January deals]. And now we didn't have the capacity to improve the team in the way that we think we want to improve it. So we decided not to do something yet.”

"So, we’ve got one of the thinnest squads (incl no top striker) but won’t be doing anything about it? Sorry Mikel, but you’re talking incomprehensible nonsense."

While it remains true that injuries have plagued Arsenal’s season so far; critics like Piers Morgan believe that this should not be used as an excuse or justification for underperformance or lack of strategic moves during transfer windows.
