A new agreement has been reached between the Italian third tier and the broadcasting giant

The third tier of Italian football, Serie C, will call Sky Italia it's home for the rest of the 2022/23 season, after signing a broadcast deal with the company.

Sky Italia will show three Serie C matches per week across its pay-TV channels, and will also provide coverage of the promotion and relegation playoffs at the end of the season.

One interesting quirk of this new agreement between the two means that Sky will not be able to broadcast matches featuring the same club more than six times during the season, and will be barred from showing the same team twice within the same month.

Sky joins Eleven Sports and Italian state broadcaster Rai as broadcast partners with Serie C, also known as Lega Pro.

Eleven Sports already provides live streaming of all Serie C matches on its OTT subscription platform, and also shares coverage on the league's own TV channel.

Meanwhile, free-to-air network Rai will continue to show one Serie A fixture per week.

Francesco Ghirelli, President of Serie C, had this to say on the deal:

“The agreement with Sky is a result that does not come by chance, but is the result of an enhancement strategy,”

“Lega Pro thus expands its visibility, giving the opportunity to many clubs and their fans to make themselves known and appreciated on a platform of great prestige, so that the value of great historic squares and young realities who will participate in our championship.”

In other news, the Italian top flight Serie A has confirmed that several of its matches will air on the One Football app and website for free in the UK and Ireland, and that it plans to launch its own OTT highlights platform in the coming months.
