Sky has retained rights for ten matches per round from the new cycle

Sky Italia, the heavyweight pay-TV broadcaster, has announced an extension to its exclusive rights deal for English soccer’s top-tier Premier League (EPL). The renewal will see Sky Italia continue to exclusively cover the 20-team EPL until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.

The current deal between Sky Italia and EPL, which also spans three years, is set to conclude at the end of the 2024-25 season. This new agreement ensures that coverage will continue uninterrupted for another three seasons.

Under this extended agreement, there will be coverage of up to all ten matches per round. These matches will be broadcast live on both Sky’s linear channels and via their Now streaming service. In addition to match coverage, viewers can look forward to pre and post-match analysis as well as a highlights show titled "Premier League Remix".

New deal brings new dimensions to renewed deal

Feature-style programming such as "Premier League Stories" segment will also be aired under this renewed contract. GlobalData (Sportcal) estimates that the current tie-up between Sky Italia and EPL is worth around $35 million per year. This extension represents not only a continuation but also an expansion of their partnership since it includes more live games than before.

Previously during the 2019-22 cycle, only seven live EPL games were shown every week by Sky Italia. However, with this new extension in place, fans can expect even more action from their favorite teams.

Prominent Italian players currently competing in EPL include Arsenal’s Jorginho, Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie and Aston Villa’s Nicolò Zaniolo among others who are likely to benefit from increased visibility back home due to this extended broadcasting deal.

Sky has witnessed similar extensions across Europe

Sky Italia is not the only broadcaster extending its EPL coverage. Sky Deutschland, the broadcaster’s German counterpart, has also announced a similar extension through 2027-28. This deal is exclusive in Germany and Austria and non-exclusive in Switzerland.

In the UK, Sky’s branch remains the main domestic broadcaster for EPL alongside TNT Sports. Their deal, worth £6.7 billion ($8.45 billion), covers the 2025-26 to 2028-29 cycle. Apart from EPL rights, Sky Italia also holds domestic rights for Italy’s Serie A through to 2028-29 season. This agreement allows them to co-broadcast three games per week while DAZN holds rights to all matches.

This continued partnership between Sky Italia and Premier League ensures that sports fans will continue enjoying comprehensive coverage of their favorite teams and players for years to come.
