Morocco vs Malawi Prediction
Tip: Clean Sheet - Morocco | Team Goals Over 2.5 - Morocco
Key Points:
1. Morocco have won nine of their last ten matches in all competitions
2. Morocco have only conceded in two of their last ten matches
3. Morocco have scored two or more goals in eight of their last ten matches
Anything can happen in football but cliché aside this looks to be a pretty easy tie to predict. Morocco have been incredibly consistent in World Cup qualifiers, friendlies and AFCON group games. The Atlas Lions possess the necessary quality to win the entire tournament, which would make them second time champions. They score plenty of goals, they don't concede many, and they sit 101 places above their opponents Malawi in the FIFA rankings. We all like an upset, but just as Cameroon dispatched their underdog opponents Comoros yesterday, we fully expect Morocco to put Malawi away tonight with relative ease.
Even while leaving out the likes of Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech and Ajax's Noussair Mazraoui, Vahid Halilhodzic's squad is packed with talent. Former Southampton man Sofiane Boufal has proven a ready replacement for Ziyech. Wolves' Romain Saiss is a worthy captain. PSG right back Achraf Hakimi is legitimately one of the best players on the planet right now. Morocco have what it takes to go deep in the tournament and this should be a fairly simple route into the quarter finals for them.
Morocco have won nine of their last ten matches in all competitions, many against far stronger opposition than they'll face tonight. During that time, they've conceded in just two of those ten games, while scoring two or more goals themselves in eight of them. The Atlas Lions are formidable.
While Malawi deserve their place in the knockout stages after beating Zimbabwe, a team ranked eight places above them according to FIFA, and grinding out a 0-0 draw against Senegal, they shouldn't offer too much resistance to Morocco. The Southern African nation have kept only two clean sheets from their last fourteen games in all competitions and will struggle to keep their opponents' attacking talent at bay. They've also managed just five goals from their last ten matches. Just one of those goals, the one scored against Ivory Coast, came against a side of comparable quality to the one they'll encounter in this match.
All in all, it should be a relatively straight forward night for the North African giants. We expect them to score goals and keep a clean sheet. That's why we're backing a Morocco win, a Morocco clean sheet and over 2.5 team goals for the Atlas Lions.
