Sporting were reportedly angry over their manager’s meeting with West Ham

Sporting CP manager, Ruben Amorim, has recently issued an emotional apology over his meeting with West Ham United. The Portuguese coach described the encounter as 'a mistake' and one that he will have to accept and live with.

Reports surfaced on Monday afternoon revealing that Amorim had travelled to London for discussions with the Hammers. This news ignited hope among some West Ham fans who are eager for a change in management, specifically the departure of David Moyes. The meeting was confirmed to have lasted three hours, after which Amorim immediately flew back to Portugal. Upon his arrival, he was swarmed by journalists seeking more information about the unexpected rendezvous.

However, the 39-year-old coach chose not to disclose any details about their conversation. Instead, he hinted that more information would be revealed during Sporting's next press conference.

Liverpool rejected opportunity to sign Amorim

Interestingly enough, before this incident unfolded with West Ham United, Liverpool had also shown interest in securing Ruben Amorim as their new manager. However, they eventually turned their attention towards Arne Slot instead.

Neither West Ham nor Sporting have officially commented on this matter yet. Despite these off-field distractions and controversies surrounding their manager’s actions, Sporting remains focused on its upcoming Porto fixture - a victory here could secure them the Primeira Liga title on Sunday.

Sporting CP manager, Ruben Amorim, said:

"It was wrong, especially when I'm so demanding with the players and always the first to say that each one's actions can overpower the team. I have already removed players from the squad for much less.

"It was a mistake, I have to accept it and live with it. It didn't seem so bad at the time, but thinking about it later it's very clear. I gave explanations to the players and the staff. Now it's time to move on. I’m so sorry and I apologise to fans, club and players”.

Premier League now top destination for every manager

Meanwhile in England’s top-flight football league - The Premier League - repercussions of this incident were felt when West Ham managed a 2-2 draw against Liverpool last Saturday; denting Liverpool's hopes of clinching another Premier League title.

The unfolding of these events has left fans and sports betting enthusiasts in suspense, eagerly awaiting further developments. As the situation continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how this impacts both Sporting CP and West Ham United's future strategies and performances. "My trip was a mistake, the timing was completely wrong, it didn't seem right at the time.
