The new season will premiere on 2nd of May instead of 18th of April

FX has officially announced a delay in the premiere of the third season of its popular docuseries, "Welcome to Wrexham." Initially slated for April 18, the new season will now air on May 2. This article provides an in-depth look into this development and other related news about the show and its subject - Wrexham AFC.

"Welcome to Wrexham" is a docuseries that follows the journey of historic Welsh football club, Wrexham AFC, since its acquisition by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The first two seasons aired in August 2022 and September 2023 respectively. Despite being pushed back by two weeks from its initial Spring 2024 broadcast date, season three will still align with the thrilling conclusion of the club's 2023/24 campaign.

Under McElhenney and Reynolds' leadership, Wrexham recently celebrated promotion to the English Football League for the first time since their last appearance during the 2007/08 campaign. This achievement has not only boosted morale but also brought attention to their story as captured by "Welcome to Wrexham," which bagged five Emmy Awards within its first two seasons.

Hulu will stream back-to-back episodes after premiere

The show airs on FX but is also available for streaming on Hulu a day after airing. The premiere episode of season three scheduled for May 2nd will feature back-to-back episodes with eight total episodes planned for this new season.

FX released statement:

“The club is under no immediate pressure to repay these loans at the expense of the progress we seek to achieve and further financial support will be provided/secured to support the capital expenditure projects the club is currently planning, which includes increasing the capacity of The Racecourse Ground and the development of a training facility for all the club’s teams,”

In related news, recent financial reports reveal that despite significant increases in turnover ($13.2 million) and revenue ($1.6 million), losses have also escalated from $3.6 million to $6.4 million within one year (from fiscal year '22/'23). Interestingly, the club now owes its Hollywood owners over $11 million, a significant increase from their initial combined purchase price of $2.5 million in 2020.

Despite these losses, Wrexham AFC maintains that they were necessary to achieve recent goals and objectives.

Wrexham to face Mansfield Town in quest for promotion

As the club continues to vie for promotion to League One, it is set to host current League Two table leader Mansfield Town on Friday at 11 a.m. ET. This match will be available for streaming in the United States on ESPN+. It marks Wrexham's first league match of the 2023/24 season available on this platform.

Despite delays and financial challenges, "Welcome to Wrexham" continues its captivating journey into the world of football management under Hollywood ownership. With an exciting end-of-season campaign ahead and more episodes set for release soon, fans have much to look forward to.
